New process for processing titanium-nickel wire material

Multilayer composite sheets made of different metal sheets are prepared through cladding rolling

Northeast University of Japan successfully researched a new processing technology for titanium-nickel shape memory wire, known as the sheath - debris extrusion method.

The process of this processing method mainly includes the following basic steps:

1. Prepare multilayer composite sheets made of different metal sheets through coating rolling, where the thickness ratio of various metal layers depends on the determined chemical composition.

2. Cut the rolled composite sheets into debris, and then fill the debris into a container to make a blank.

3. Extrude the blank into fine rods, and then further process them into fine wires.

4. Through thermal diffusion treatment, convert the fine wires into the desired titanium-nickel intermetallic compound wire.

By using this process, the machinability of the composite material can be improved, achieving fine wires with good microstructure at a very high reduction rate.
